Mahogany was directed by Berry Gordy and produced by Motown Productions in 1975. Star of the movie is Diana Ross and it was served as her follow up feature film after the big success of “Lady sings the Blues” in 1972. She also sings the main theme which became a #1 hit on the Billboard Top 100 charts in 1976. It has also been sampled over 35 times by many HipHop artists such as Nas, Slick Rick, Notorious BIG, Sadat X, Dj Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Big Daddy Kane, Funk Doobiest and so on.

The song has also been nominated for the Academy Award for best original song.
