John Holt
John Kenneth Holt was born on July 11, 1947 in Kingston, Jamaica and was a Jamaican rocksteady and reggae singer and songwriter who became known as a member of the Paragons and later made a career as a solo musician. With the record label "Treasure Isle" he managed several hit singles with the band "The Paragons" during the Rocksteady era. The best known song from this time is "The Tide Is High". From 1970 he concentrated on his solo career, producing several hits, especially in collaboration with Bunny Lee as producer. In the early 80's his album "Police in Helicopter" with the single of the same name and "Fat She Fat" became a great success again in Jamaica and elsewhere. Shown with dreadlocks and a beard on the album cover, Holt shows here his turn to Rastafari. On October 19, 2014 John Holt died in London. He left behind his wife Valerie and 12 children.
